# Payments

## Recording a payment

Open an invoice and press **Add payment**. Fill in the **Amount**, **Paid on** date, a **Method** (Bank transfer, Cash, Card or Other) and an optional **Reference**. Zero is refused — a payment has to actually move the invoice forward.

**Mark as paid** is the shortcut for the common case: it records one bank payment for exactly the invoice's open amount, dated today, without opening the form.

Removing a payment recalculates the invoice on the spot: a **Paid** invoice can drop back to **Sent** or **Overdue** if the payment that made it paid is removed.

A credit note never takes a payment — only an invoice does.

## The payments list

**Sales → Payments** lists every payment recorded across all your invoices, with **Date**, **Invoice**, **Method**, **Reference** and **Amount** columns, filterable by **From** date, **To** date and **Method**. Clicking a row opens the invoice the payment belongs to.
